Keep Austin: Austin. An Austin designer’s POV on the changing Texas Capitol
In the last few years Austin has gone from a sleepy Capitol city to making it on “Top places to live” lists across the United States. To those that grew up here it’s almost hard to reconcile the Austin of our youth with the one coming neck and neck with Brooklyn and Asheville for most liveable cities.
And yet, here we are. Austin design, like interior design everywhere, ebbs and flows under different influences. As a local Austin experienced interior designer, I want to share some inspiration I take from this city.
Diversity
Austin might be the Capitol of Texas but it’s “Keep Austin Weird” motto has always been a great example of how different this Texas city really is from others. Austin design is no different either. Interior design in Austin may pull from old Spanish influences or might even contemporary architecture. Austin’s move from sleepy Capitol to tech magnet means that diversity and eclecticism reign when it comes to designing a home in Austin.
Nature
Looking around Austin it’s easy to be in awe from the natural wonder surrounding the city. From Jacobs Well to Mount Bonnel, stunning views, gorgeous swimming holes, and long hikes are in ample availability. It’s a perfect job for a top Austin interior designer or austin design firm to look at the natural world around the city and translate it into design influences in the home. This may come out in materials, fabrics, textures, colors or more. Austin design certainly has an earthy, natural flare to it that can be explored to a really beautiful extent.
Movement
Whether you like live music or you regularly hit the Broken Spoke for some dancing- there’s something always moving in Austin. Though it’s not your typical metropolis with a massive downtown- there are little corners and places where there’s always something going on. This constant movement in the city lends int self to some really creative austin influenced design. Designers in Austin will know how to interpret the energy of the city into the perfect half bath, ADU, or even kitchen. Yes, Austin design influences are everywhere!
What’s Old is New
Austin has a good number of homes built in the 60s and 70s making them prime opportunities for Austin remodels and Austin design renovations right now.
